We’ve talked a bit before about how nutrition affects your hair. Here are some tips about what foods make your hair fabulous!
- Salmon – brings out the shiny in your hair. Fish such as salmon and mackeral are packed with healthy omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids help protect your body from disease and help you grow hair and keep it shiny and full. Fatty acids are not manufactured by your body, so you need them from food or supplements
. - Guava – helps prevent breakage. Guava is a tropical fruit that can be found in your local supermarket. This fruit protects your hair from breaking and has lots ofvitamin C! One cup of guava has 377 mg of vitamin C (webmd.com) which is more than 4 times the minimum daily recommended amount according to health Canada. Awesome!
- Greek Yogurt – helps your hair grow. Greek yogurt contains protein (the building blocks of your locks). This kind of yogurt also has vitamin B5 which helps with blood flow to your scalp encouraging hair growth! Vitamin B5 (a.k.a. panthothenic acid) can even help against hair thinning and loss. This ingredient can also be found in many hair and skincare product labels. (webmd.com).
- Oysters – for fullness. Oysters have lots of zinc which help with hair loss. Cells which build hair need zinc to assist them in working their best. Lobster, Crab, Beef, and fortified cereal also contain zinc.
- Spinach – to help brittle hair… Lots of dark green leafy vegetables are full of
amazing nutrients and helpful for your hair. Spinach contains lots of vitamin A, plus iron, vitamin C, folate, and beta carotene. These all work together to create ahealthy scalp and mane. Kale is also another great choice and will help keep your hair moisturized so it doesn’t break. - Iron-Fortified Cereal – prevents hair loss. Iron deficiencies can lead to hair loss, but you can find this nutrient in fortified cereal, soybeans, lentils, pastas and grains. Beef, especially meats like liver, contain a lot of iron along with shellfish and dark leafy greens as well.

- Cinnamon – for circulation. This spice helps with blood flow (circulation) andbrings oxygen and nutrients to your hair follicles (webmd.com). Sprinkle this spice on your toast, oatmeal, and in your coffee!
Remember… healthy food = healthy hair.
